The 20th Hospice in the Weald Run was on 20 September 2026; results are on Sporthive and the next run is Sunday 19 September 2027. Routes, closures, ages.

The Hospice in the Weald Run 2026 took place in Royal Tunbridge Wells on Sunday 20 September, the event’s 20th year. Ten roads on the west side of town were closed to through traffic from 9am to 12.30pm while it ran.

Every pound raised for this year’s run is being doubled, up to £100,000. The hospice says the Freddie Green and Family Charitable Foundation is providing the match funding. (Hospice in the Weald, Hospice Run 2026)

Hospice in the Weald Run 2026 results, and the 2027 date

The next Hospice Run is on Sunday 19 September 2027, again from the Lower Common Cricket Ground. Hospice in the Weald lists the date on its events page, and Nice Work, the race organiser, shows the same date on its Hospice Run page. Entries for 2027 were not yet open on 1 October 2026; Eventrac has a register-interest button for the 2027 race.

Chip-timed results for 2026 are published. Nice Work’s results page lists the half marathon, the adult 10k and the adult 5k as complete, with the times held on Sporthive. The child 10k and 5k categories were still marked “awaiting results” on 1 October. Search by name on Sporthive to find your time.

As of 1 October the hospice had not announced how much the 2026 run raised, or how much of the £100,000 match fund was used. We will add the total when it does.

The races and start times

The event village opened at 8am at the Lower Common Cricket Ground. Runners chose one of four routes.

Route Start time Minimum age
Half marathon 9.30am 17
Family route 9.45am None
10k 10am 15
5k 10.15am 11

The minimum ages were new in 2026. The hospice says it had not enforced age limits before, and aligned them with England Athletics guidance. They were a condition of entry, with no exceptions, so expect the same in 2027.

The courses pass the Spa Valley Railway line and High Rocks. The half marathon branches off the 10k route and rejoins it at Castle Road for the finish. The hospice has published each route on Plotaroute: 5k, 10k and half marathon.

Which roads close

Kent County Council published its intention to make a temporary order for the run. The closures applied from 9am to 12.30pm only:

  • Church Road, between Mount Ephraim and London Road
  • Mount Ephraim, between Church Road and Bishops Down
  • Bishops Down, between Mount Ephraim and Langton Road
  • Langton Road, between Bishops Down and Holmewood Ridge
  • Holmewood Ridge, all of it
  • Broom Lane, between Holmewood Ridge and Hillswood Road
  • High Rocks Lane, between Tea Garden Lane and Hungershall Park
  • Hungershall Park, all of it
  • Major Yorks Road, between Nevill Park and London Road
  • Castle Road, all of it

The signed diversion for through traffic was long. In order, it ran via:

  • the A26 London Road and A26 Eridge Road
  • Summersales Hill and Lye Green
  • the B2188 Plumyfeather Lane, Cherry Gardens Hill and Hendal Hill
  • the B2110 Withyham Road and Groombridge Hill
  • the A264 Langton Road, back into town

(Kent County Council temporary traffic regulation notices, published 27 August 2026)

The hospice said marshals could only advise drivers and could not stop traffic. Emergency vehicles were given access to the route. The 2027 run uses the same start, so expect a similar set of Sunday-morning closures; Kent County Council publishes the notice a few weeks before.

Why the money matters

Hospice in the Weald says it needs to raise more than £10 million every year to provide its care. It asks each runner to raise £100. By its own figures, a team of five raising £150 each could fund its entire therapies team for a day.

Savills in Tunbridge Wells is sponsoring the run for the 20th year, the hospice says. (Hospice in the Weald, Hospice Run 2026)

What it means for you

  • If you ran, your chip time is on Sporthive via Nice Work’s results page, linked above.
  • If you want to run in 2027, put Sunday 19 September 2027 in the diary. In 2026, on-the-day entry was available in the event village at a slightly higher price than booking ahead, closing 15 minutes before each race, and entry fees were non-refundable.
  • Headphones were not allowed on the course in 2026. Bone-conducting headsets were.
  • If you drive on the west side of town, the 2026 closures above are the best guide to which roads to avoid on the morning of the 2027 run.
